I believe Tokyo has one of the most beautiful night views in the world. The city offers many iconic landmarks, including Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, and Rainbow Bridge. There are also countless other great locations where photographers can capture the beauty of Tokyo after dark.
When the sun goes down, many of these places are illuminated, creating an atmosphere that is completely different from the daytime. Every location has its own unique charm, and that is one of the reasons I decided to spend so much time photographing Tokyo at night.
Night photography can be a little challenging, especially for people who have just started using a camera. Because of this, I occasionally hold night photography workshops to help beginners enjoy photographing the city after dark.
There is no single “best” camera setting for every situation. Your settings depend on the quality you want to achieve and the conditions at the location.
Although smartphones can take beautiful photos today, they still have limitations compared with DSLR and modern mirrorless cameras. The larger image sensor in these cameras allows you to capture more detail, better colors, and cleaner images, especially in low-light conditions.
By using the right camera settings and carefully developing your images in Lightroom, you can create photographs with remarkably high quality.
Of course, camera settings are only part of the process. Choosing where to place your camera and finding the best angle are just as important. Sometimes moving only a few steps can completely change the final image.
I hope my photographs encourage more people to discover the beauty of Tokyo at night and inspire them to enjoy night photography for themselves.
